Foods to Avoid While Breast Feeding
As a mother of a newly born child, it is important to remember that you are now responsible to ensure that your child gets the proper diet that he or she needs to fully grow. This begins with breast feeding, when a child will receive all the same nutrients and foods that you consumed earlier. Because of this, there are a couple of foods to avoid eating during this period.
To start out, you should not eat anything that could possibly cause an allergic reaction in your baby. This can be determined by simply looking at your family's history of allergies and determining what is most likely to reappear in your newborn child. Common foods that can trigger allergies include freshwater fish, garlic, eggs, chocolate and products with caffeine. There is no guarantee that he or she will suffer from these same allergies, but it is always better to be safe then sorry.
You should also avoid eating the same thing over and over again. Doing so makes it almost certain that your child will not receive a great deal of different nutrients and minerals that he or she needs. Eat as many different healthy foods as possible and you should be fine.
To sum up, other than a few select foods, there are not many limits on what a mother who is breast feeding her newborn can eat. The most important things to remember are to diversify the foods consumed and to ensure that no possible health risks come from breast feeding a child foods which may trigger allergies. Once those two keys are done, you are pretty much free to decide whatever you want to eat and to pass those nutrients and diets onto a child.
