Dieting and Breast Feeding

Dieting along with exercising is fine for both pregnant women and breast feeding moms. The only concern is that you should be sure that you are receiving enough calories for you to produce the milk needed for your baby. While you are breast feeding you will need to consume 1500 calories today. Dieting is fine as long as you still consume the same amount of calories per day and that you eat well-balanced meals.

No, you cannot cut out all breads or other nutritional items that you believe put on weight. You should remember that you need more calcium, a matter of fact you will need to have five servings of dairy products per day to produce enough milk for the baby.

Dieting and breast feeding does not have to be a major problem at all, unless you plan on skipping meals or not eating foods that your body and the baby needs to remain healthy.

You should contact your health care provider or dietician before you start a diet while you are breast feeding. They will be able to help you plan your meals so you can lose the weight you desire while still providing the nutritional that you need for breast feeding.

Your doctor can also talk with you about different exercise programs that can help you lose weight without going on a strict diet that may take away nutrients that your own body needs. Dieting can be good, if you are only cutting out such as items as soda, chips, and other fattening snack items and replacing them with good nutritional snacks such as fresh fruit or vegetables.
