Breast Feeding and Weight Loss

Whether you believe this or not, breast feeding women tend to lose the weight they gained while pregnant faster than non-breast feeding mom's.

If you go on a diet or exercise to lose the extra weight that you put on while you were pregnant you should remember one thing. Be sure to only exercise moderately and when dieting be sure to still consume 1500 calories per day. Exercising and dieting is not a problem while breast feeding and neither is losing weight as long as you are eating well balanced meals and you do not exercise to exhaustion.

Weight loss will come with time. You did not gain all the extra weight in a month, it took nine long months and it will take time to lose the weight. However, if you are breast feeding you still want to ensure that your baby is getting enough nutrients as well as eating properly to keep yourself healthy.

While you are exercising and dieting to lose weight you should not lose more than four pounds per month while breast feeding. Eating a diet that is rich in fresh fruits and vegetables will give you a great way in which to lose weight while maintaining the correct amount of nutrients. You can reduce the amount of fats in your diet, drink skim milk but remember to include five servings of dairy products per day, limit other fattening foods and snacks such as soda's, and exercise moderately.

Following a well balanced diet and a moderate exercise program will promote safe weight loss while you are breast feeding.
