Pregnancy Bleeding
During pregnancy, bleeding can be a sign that you are having a problem pregnancy or it could mean nothing at all. Some women continue bleeding for up to six months during their pregnancy. No matter how far along you are in your pregnancy, you should contact your physician immediately at least to let them know what is going on.
Pregnancy bleeding during the first trimester is any bleeding that occurs during the first three months of pregnancy and can vary with each woman from very light spotting to severe bleeding including clots. This is very common during early pregnancy in around 20 to 30% of all pregnancies. Normally, everything is fine, but you will need to rest a bit more.
Pregnancy bleeding during the second and third trimester is any bleeding that occurs during the fourth to the ninth month of pregnancy. If you experience any pregnancy bleeding after the third month you should let your doctor know immediately. This is not a normal sign in pregnancy and could mean that you are having problems carrying the baby.
Any pregnancy bleeding after the 28 th week is an emergency. If you are also experiencing any abdominal pain you should go directly to the emergency room. It could be that you are hemorrhaging and you have to be given emergency care. This very serious complication does result in death of the mother and occurs in around 4% of all pregnancies.
At any time that you notice pregnancy bleeding you should contact your doctor even if you in the early stages of pregnancy. The doctor will be able to tell if you or the baby may be in danger and will let you know what to do.
