Over Weight and Pregnant
Being overweight and pregnant is the condition of having excessive weight beyond the recommended weight during the period of pregnancy on a particular body type. This condition of being overweight and pregnant does not mean that a pregnant woman has to undergo a crash diet.
Strict dieting is not allowed during pregnancy because it may interfere with the proper nourishment which the baby requires during the conception period inside her mother's womb. Usually a doctor will recommend for overweight pregnant women to observe healthy eating habits along with regular exercise to maintain their current weight.
During pregnancy, gaining weight is a normal occurrence and should not scare pregnant women. The additional weight is because of the growing baby and the placenta. Being overweight and pregnant should also not be a worry because there are many ways to prevent further gain of excessive weight. Among these are eating more fruits, yogurt, vegetables, raisins and nuts in lieu of junk foods and chocolates that are not beneficial to the mother or the baby.
Being overweight and pregnant is also associated with various conditions like pre-eclampsia, premature birth, gestational diabetes and caesarean sections. In order to prevent these stages of a high-risk pregnancy, proper eating habits and routing exercising must be employed.
To further prevent being overweight and pregnant, a pregnant woman must have regular monthly check-ups to monitor her health and the health of the baby. Early prevention is easier than solving the complications.
