Weight Loss after Pregnancy

Weight loss after pregnancy is important to many women after giving birth. Of course it's natural that your new baby is the number one priority in your life but this doesn't mean you should feel at all guilty for wanting to get yourself back in to shape and shed some of those pounds that you gained during pregnancy.

It is important to ease yourself back in to a weight loss after pregnancy regime taking, pardon the pun here, baby steps. You can start right away literally by reducing your food intake slightly. We recommend eating 300 less calories per day for a few weeks and measuring your progress. It isn't all about losing weight after pregnancy, though. To truly get back in to great shape you will need to take part in exercises that tone your body.

Toning your body is simply building up a little muscle while losing the excess fat. Contrary to what some magazines say it's impossible to just tone specific areas of your body or lose fat off your hips, etc. You lose fat all over; it's just that women have more portions of fat that tend to congregate around the hips and buttocks.

Doing light dumbbell exercises, sit-ups and push-ups are great for easing yourself in to an exercise regime for weight loss after pregnancy. You can start with light weights and build up over a period of weeks to heavier ones with more resistance. This will firm your muscles up and if done in conjunction with eating less calories and light exercise such as walking or skipping you will see the weight come off and your body will begin to firm up nicely.
