The Fertility Diet: Increase Your Chances of Getting Pregnant

There are so many ways to boost one’s fertility. But of course every woman prefers the natural way of doing it. What could be more natural than engaging in a healthy diet to increase your shots at pregnancy. Fertility and diet go hand in hand. There are foods that can help a woman get pregnant and there are also certain foods that can harm her.

Here are some dietary factors that can affect a woman’s fertility:

Mono-unsaturated versus Trans Fat

A recent research in Harvard School says that women who are not ovulating are consuming more amounts of trans fat in their diets that those who do not have any infertility issues. The study further indicates that women double their risk of infertility if they ingest 2% of total calories from Trans fat than mono-unsaturated fat which is healthier. To reduce trans fat from diets, one should avoid hydrogenated oils.

Protein

Women who are wishing to get pregnant should maintain a 20% protein intake on their diets. Too much animal protein and protein breakdown products have a direct toxic effect to fertility.

Dairy

Calcium is an essential mineral that your body needs when you want to get pregnant. Some good sources of calcium are milk, yoghurt and cheese. However, these contain saturated fat which should be consumed in moderation. Instead, you can try broccoli, kale and oranges. They are also good sources of calcium. Salmon and sardines are also recommended.

Iron Intake

Women taking supplements high in iron have a lower risk of ovulatory infertility than those who does not. One can also maintain good levels of iron in the body by consuming protein-rich meats and poultry products.

Carbohydrates

A well-balanced, low glycemic index diet has beneficial effects to infertility symptoms. To make sure you have enough fiber, consume breads with whole grains. These contain nutrients that your body needs to be healthy.
