Pregnancy Diet and Foods to Avoid
It is very important to maintain a healthy diet throughout the nine month course of a pregnancy. This does not only guarantee the well-being of the baby but may assure you of a normal delivery as well.
A healthy diet is comprised of balanced meals that include fruits and vegetables, foods with protein, carbohydrates and hydrating fluids. Always be aware of the food you eat. Here are some foods you should avoid as much as possible during pregnancy
Caffeinated and Alcoholic Drinks
These are not only restricted to coffee or beer. Alcohol and caffeine hinders the absorption of iron and folic acid, which are vital nutrients you and your baby needs. Consuming too much alcohol can also lead to a condition known as Fetal Alcohol Syndrome.
Junk Food
Pregnant or not, junk foods are never good for anyone. They mainly consist of empty calories and do not give any substantial benefits to your body. If you have a craving for a candy bar, grab a banana drizzled with chocolate instead.
Uncooked Meats
Avoid eating raw eggs and meat. This includes lunch meats such as salami and bologna. Pregnant women are more prone to illness that these kinds of foods may carry.
Additives
Avoid food with MSG, artificial food colorings, olestra, and saccharin.
Some Seafood
In general, fish is a healthy food. However, there are some kinds of seafood that you should stay clear of during pregnancy. These include sushi, sashimi, shellfish and mackerel.
During your pregnancy, you should not attempt to go on any kind of weight loss diet. It is important to eat healthy and nourish your growing baby responsibly. Consult your doctor and request a list of recommended foods. Remember that your baby is eating whatever foods and drinks you put into your mouth.
