Food Cravings in Pregnancy

Why on earth would any sane expectant mother want to eat pickles and ice cream mixed together? Why indeed. Let us introduce food cravings in pregnancy and try to uncover what food cravings are and why it's common for women to crave extremely odd food combinations during pregnancy.

What Are Food Cravings?

Put simply if you are experiencing food cravings during your pregnancy then your body is telling you something - it needs something from the food. This could be sugar or specific nutrients. Another idea is that because your senses and taste are altered during pregnancy you simply wish to enjoy many more foods that you may of 'neglected' previously.

Popular Food Cravings during Pregnancy

Pickles are an extremely common reported food craving and this can be put down simply to salt which will increase your sodium levels. This is normal. Personally we think as long as your cravings are too crazy then go for it, but make sure you eat a balanced diet and you may not get many food cravings at all.

Many people believe food cravings in pregnancy are all in the mind and that because women expect to crave food, they confuse hunger and desires for food with cravings. You will find many foods taste different during your pregnancy so feel free to sample a great many products from the supermarket!
