Sign of ConceptionMy Gran always told me that she could tell a pregnant women a mile off (the sign of conception she called it), of course this was hardly a skill to write home about when the woman in question was eight months gone, however it was not stating the obvious that my Gran was good at, it was spotting someone who had only just become pregnant. It was uncanny, with all of my sisters Gran was the one who suggested they get “checked out” as she put it. They had no idea and thought she was mad, of course they changed their mind when their pregnancy was confirmed by the Doctor. My Gran believed that she could see “something special” when a woman becomes pregnant, suggesting that she could see their aura or glow. She often used to say that pregnant women always walk a little prouder. Over the years my Gran got herself a bit of a reputation, family friends who were having problems with conceiving would come around to see her for a chat. What she used to speak to them about we were never privy to, however none of us were surprised when the same family friends announced a few months later that they were expecting. Nowadays of course there is a lot more technology about, women are more away of the symptoms of pregnancy and how to enhance their chances of pregnancy. There's also more advice available from books and the Internet and people are more likely to discuss pregnancy and conception in a public environment.
