So You're Pregnant - What to Expect Now!

Congratulations on getting pregnant! For some, actually getting pregnant is the hardest thing about having a baby. Some couples will try to conceive for many months, perhaps even years before finally getting pregnant. So the nine months of carrying the baby before labor and delivery feels like a fresh new challenge, certainly one that beats the uncertainty of hoping (and praying) that menstruation will be avoided that month.

Now that you've been successful with getting pregnant, you will most likely want to know what to expect for the next few months. Certainly it will be an interesting and exciting time, perhaps even a little scary. If you begin to feel anxious, it is very important to remember, that plenty of people are getting pregnant all over the world, every day or the year. It's perfectly natural and in most cases an uncomplicated and wonderful experience.

It is fair to say, that you should expect some form of discomfort during pregnancy. Unfortunately, getting pregnant means that there will be some aches and pains and the inevitable early signs of pregnancy. For most women., these include morning sickness and fatigue. Both are the initial side affects of getting pregnant, however once you weather the storm for the first trimester, you'll start to get back to normal.

Probably the worst part about getting pregnant is the initial tiredness that you will experience. It's completely frustrating to just lose your energy almost overnight. You can combat this by ensuring that you receive plenty of quality sleep and by taking regular exercise. After about twelve weeks all of your energy levels should return to normal.

The great thing about getting pregnant is coming up with a name for your new baby. Many people already have a selection of names in their heads. While other couples will continue to make suggestions before compromising shortly after the baby is born. We have even heard from mothers who could only name their child after seeing them for the first time, saying that they had to see their little cherub's face before deciding on a name they thought suited them.

Of course, these days it is possible to find out what the sex of your child is before they are born. For some this takes away the surprise aspect of getting pregnant. For women opting for a natural birth, it is more likely they will decide to keep the sex of the baby unknown until delivery. The plus side for knowing what sex your child will be is that it gives you the opportunity to prepare for a boy and a girl.

Many parents like to have the baby's room completed before they return from the hospital, often the sex of the baby determines the color of the room. Certainly, it affects the types of clothes that are bought for the baby. Yet many still prefer to be kept guessing until the very end. There's no right or wrong thing to do in these situations, if you would like to know the sex of your baby, you should simply ask your midwife during your scan. Getting pregnant is the first step on a wonderful road of questions and choices, we wish you every piece of luck.
