Why Can't I Get Pregnant

Many couples find it hard to conceive for the first time. This is certainly true if the woman has used a contraceptive pill for any length of time. It takes a little bit of time for the body to react to the hormonal changes of not taking the pill, so it can often take a little while longer than you first expect.

Medically speaking, there is no problem with your fertility if you have failed to get pregnant after less than twelve months of having unprotected sex. If it has been longer than this, we recommend that you arrange an appointment with your medical doctor, they will carry out further tests and examine whether there are any other problems stopping you from becoming pregnant.

If it is less than twelve months, often the best approach is to try and relax. Of course, it is easier to say this, yet we're amazed how often couples enjoy a successful conception after they begin to think less about getting pregnant and more about enjoying each others company. Becoming pregnant should never be a chore, it is an act of love between two people, try to keep this mind set whenever you spend special time with your partner.

It is always possible to enhance your chances of becoming pregnant by paying attention to your health, diet and fitness. Clearly, you will want to reduce or remove completely, smoking and drinking alcohol. This is also the same for your partner, as smoking and alcohol can harm the quality of their sperm. Try to drink less caffeine based drinks such as coffee and replace with a healthier herbal tea, green tea is thought to improve fertility in many women.

With regards to health and fitness, try to keep your body in tip top condition. This does not mean you should be thinking of qualifying for an Olympic event, merely making sure that you take regular. You might like to try swimming or join a yoga class, if possible try and make this something that you can enjoy together with your partner.

There are also sexual methods advised by the medical fraternity, for example following sexual intercourse you might want to hold your legs in the air for a minute or so. This will help encourage the sperm to meet with your egg. We also suggest that you become accustomed to with your ovulation cycle, by understanding exactly when you ovulate, you can predict the optimum time for you and your partner to be making love. This information alone with increase your chances of becoming pregnant by a huge amount.

It is our opinion that mind set and mood play an important part in becoming pregnant, if you put pressure on yourself to become pregnant, you may find that you are disappointed when it does not happen. Disappointment is a negative mood, it can make us lose our confidence, so where possible try to remain upbeat, positive and above all in the mood to enjoy your love making sessions.
