How Long Does It Take to Get Pregnant?

The question of how long does it take to get pregnant is like asking how long is a piece of string. All of us are unique, we all experience pregnancies in different way. It is impossible to say exactly how long it will take to get pregnant. Instead, there are general thoughts about how long is should take, however this is not a cast iron certainty. Some women find themselves pregnant soon after as little as a wink from their partners, while for others it can take many months or even years.

This may seem incredibly unfair for some women, unfortunately it is the way it is. Our body's are extremely complex, there are a huge number of factors which can influence a pregnancy. Some of these will be out of your control, while others can be changed or fixed to improve your chances of conception.

We recently interviewed a doctor for one of the articles on our site, we asked her how long does it take to get pregnant. With a sigh, she recognized that it was a very popular question amongst women trying for a baby, especially those that had been trying for some time. Her answer was quite interesting, she said that it takes as long as is necessary for you to get pregnant. Whilst this answer will not solve the problem, it is an indicator that getting pregnant is not always as straight forward as it seems for others.

The doctor's advice was to stop asking how long does it take to get pregnant and begin concentrating on improving your chances of becoming pregnant. This subtle change in mind set she went on to explain, moves the responsibility of becoming pregnant ever so slightly. Instead of looking for answers to questions that have no answers, she encourages her patients to look at themselves and look for areas they could improve which might impact the chances of becoming pregnant.

For example, the first thing she would explain to anyone asking how long does it take to get pregnant, is that it can takes years in some women. In fact, some couples with no medical fertility problems can take more than a year to conceive. If you've been having unprotected sex without conception for less than twelve months, any thoughts of fertility are banished.

This means that our focus should be all about improving our chances, for example working out our personal signs of ovulation and therefore the optimum time for intercourse is each month. Ensuring that we are fit and healthy and removing products from our diet which we know have a detrimental affect on our fertility. This products include coffee, cigarettes and alcohol, if you're planning on having a baby, you should stop taking these types of stimulants immediately.

There is one message in this article, instead of asking how long does it take to get pregnant, we need to look at ways to enhance our chances of conception. Whilst we can control what we eat, what we drink and the level of exercise we do, we have no control over exactly how long does it take to get pregnant.
