Getting Pregnant

Many couples nowadays want to start a family of their own. Women try to get pregnant faster but little do they know getting pregnant these days is not an instant process. Often times, it needs a lot of time before a couple can successfully achieve conception. Some couples have tried for months or even years but failed to get pregnant. Their shot at pregnancy is quite low because of some factors which have negative effects on their fertility. In this website, factors that affect both male and female fertility and tips for getting pregnant faster are presented.

Factors That Affect Fertility

Fertility can be a complicated process and it may vary from person to person. There are four main factors that affect a couple’s ability to conceive and these are often the cause of worry for most women who want to get pregnant fast.

The first factor is a woman’s fertility history. Every woman is an individual and her fertility is a complex process that is affected by several other factors that are unique to her alone. These are the following:

  • Amount of stress
  • Genetics
  • Age
  • Medical history
  • Diet

It is also important to ask a woman if she has taken birth control pills or other hormonal contraception and how long she took them. Contraceptive pills have artificial hormones that prevent the ovulation process and make the female body unfriendly to conception and pregnancy. If ever a woman gets pregnant while she’s on the pill, the hormones can affect the uterine lining and may cause abortion.

The pill is very effective in overriding not only a female’s natural menstrual cycle but her body’s hormone production as well. There may be breakthrough bleeding but this should no be confused with a normal menstrual cycle.

When one stops taking contraceptive pills, it usually takes 3 months to one year for the body to get rid of its remnants and resume regular menstrual cycles and natural hormone production. You should not expect that you’ll get pregnant right away after recently coming off the pill. Most doctors and fertility experts would recommend 3 to 12 months rest after stopping the pills before trying to get pregnant. This grace period will allow your body to prepare itself for conception.

It is also vital to know if a woman experiences painful menstrual periods, if she has abnormally heavy or scanty bleeding, and if she is diagnosed with endometriosis or other menstrual issues. If she has one of these, a thorough assessment by a doctor is necessary because these can be indicators or hormonal imbalance and physical problems that may prevent pregnancy.

To be able to carry a pregnancy to term, a woman should be in her best health especially in the fertility side. Although not all fertility problems require complex medical intervention. Most fertility issues that are caused by hormonal imbalance can be corrected through proper diet, acupuncture, etc.

If your fertility history seems okay, there are three other factors that can affect how quickly you can achieve pregnancy.

Another factor is male fertility. Are your partner’s sperms healthy? If you have been trying to get pregnant and you fail every time, it is advisable to get him checked. Almost 40% of infertility issues are attributed to male infertility such as a low sperm count.

The third factor that may affect fertility is the health of the fallopian tubes. These tubes are the pathways between the ovaries and the uterus. The egg that is released from the woman’s ovary goes to the fallopian tubes after ovulation. The male sperms also travel to these tubes to meet the egg completing the process of fertilization. However, if blockages are present somewhere within these tubes, conception will not take place.

If nothing is wrong with your body or your partner’s, no blockages, no menstrual cycle or period problems, then the success of conception will depend on the last factor, which is timing.

Timing plays an important part in trying to conceive. With the right timing, you can increase your chances of getting pregnant much faster.

Ways on How to Improve Fertility

For some couples, getting pregnant is easy. But for some, it takes time. If you’re planning on having a baby soon, our website has a complete guideline on how to make pregnancy happen easily. If you have been trying for a while and you’re beginning to worry why you don’t succeed, do not panic. One in every 5 couples has infertility issues. It is a very common problem. Here are some tips on how to quick start your way to pregnancy:

  1. Have time for sex and do it regularly. Sex is the most obvious way to get pregnant but it is often overlooked in a relationship. Professional couples for example have different jobs and are busy with their work and lives that they forget to have sex on the right time. You should have sex during ovulation at around the 14th day of a woman’s menstrual cycle.

  2. Prepare your body for pregnancy. Have a healthy weight. Being under or overweight can affect your menstrual cycle/ period and can prevent pregnancy. Start exercising regularly. Stop drinking alcohol and quit smoking. These bad habits rob your body of nutrients that are essential to obtain optimum fertility. This goes not only for women but also their partners.

  3. Manage stress. Make sure that you watch your stress levels. Stress can lead to the overproduction of prolactin which is a hormone that can interfere with female ovulation. Men should also try to reduce stress levels as this can help improve the quality if his sperms.

  4. Have a well-balanced diet. Include plenty of protein-rich foods in your diet such as meat, poultry, fish and dairy. Avoid taking soya because is has contraceptive properties. Look for preconception supplements you can take. They contain zinc that is necessary to maintain a healthy menstrual cycle and selenium which can improve your fertility.
