Understanding The Signs of Ovulation
In order to properly understand the signs of ovulation, it is worth taking the time to look in more detail at a woman’s menstrual cycle. The reason that we’re keen on knowing the signs of ovulation is because it is hoped that we will be able to identify when we are at our most fertile and therefore when there is greater chance of conception.
The way to look at a menstrual cycle is to split it into two halves.
- Before ovulation
- After ovulation
Before the ovulation, an egg is developed from within the ovary. There is a brief time when the egg can be fertilized via a man’s sperm, in simple terms if this happens, then pregnancy occurs. If the egg is not fertilized, there is no pregnancy and it will be discarded via what is known as a period.
There are some general symptoms or signs of ovulation. However, they do require a certain amount of wisdom about your own body. It may not be possible to spot the signs of ovulation immediately, so it is worth taking the time and perhaps writing down your findings. The important consideration is that many of us have irregular menstrual cycles, this means that we will each ovulate at different times. The trick is working out when this time is for you.
One of the most obvious signs of ovulation is an increase in our body temperatures. Often, we immediately notice this as one of the results is sleepless nights or we might feel a little more sticky than usual. However, we might not always connect to it as one of the signs of ovulation. We can use our body temperature to establish when we are likely to ovulate by taking our own Basel temperature every morning and recording the results.
Another of the more physical signs of ovulation is that we might find a little more mucus in and around our vaginas than normal. It’s most likely that we have noticed this before and not connected it to ovulation. Although not the most reliable signs of ovulation, it is certainly a helpful pointer, especially if used in conjunction with body temperature checks as well.
Now that you’re able to spot the signs of ovulation, it is important to know what to do with that information and how it can improve your chances of becoming pregnant. The information below should be used as a guide, as we’ve already learned that all women are different.
- Before ovulation, there is a very low chance of becoming pregnant.
- Approaching ovulation, there is a slight chance of becoming pregnant.
- During ovulation, there is a much higher chance of becoming pregnant than at any other time.
- After ovulation, there is a lower chance of becoming pregnant.
The signs of ovulation are our bodies way of telling us when the best time is to have sex. If you’ve been trying for a baby for a few months without success, it is very much worth taking the time to chart your ovulation cycle and plan your love making accordingly.
