Pregnant after Miscarriage

If you have been unfortunate enough to experience a miscarriage, it is inevitable to be nervous and anxious if you have become pregnant again. Many women (wrongly) blame themselves for a previous miscarriage and carry their guilt into other pregnancies, worried that history might repeat itself.

Often having feelings like this can have a negative impact on the way that you feel during the early stages of your pregnancy, instead of being excited, happy and looking forward to a happy moment, you might feel guilt, be scared and constantly on edge. This can have a detrimental affect on your emotional state and your relationship with your partner or family.

It is very important that if you are pregnant after a miscarriage that you make the effort to discuss your feelings with someone you love and trust or someone from your medical support team. There is a term in counselling circles called “closure”, please take the time to understand what this means to you and how it can help you to put the traumas of a miscarriage into perspective, yet at the same time appreciating the often devastating affects of it.

Once you have taken these steps and understand the reasons why a miscarriage might happen, you will be better prepared should you become pregnant again. Pregnancy is hard enough, both physically and mentally without having additional emotional worries to think about.

Also, try to remember that millions of women all over the world have successfully become pregnant after a miscarriage and have gone on to have healthy children and loving families. A miscarriage is a negative experience, yet all of these women have proven that something positive will often prevail.
