Miscarriage: Types and Terms To Know

A miscarriage is the termination of the pregnancy in its early stage. Usually, the symptom of miscarriage is bleeding, but there are a lot of implications of miscarriage and a mother should be knowledgeable of these terminologies so as to help them on what they should do should they encounter the same. Below are the terminologies that are used by medical professionals which describe the different implications of miscarriage:

1. Anembryonic Pregnancy – anembryonic pregnancy, sometimes called blighted ovum or empty sac, is a medical condition wherein the gestational sac of a woman is developing normally, but the embryo does not continue to develop or is not present.
   
   
2. Inevitable Abortion – this type of miscarriage is a condition wherein the cervix of a woman is already open or has dilated but the baby or the fetus is not yet out. Usually, this condition leads to what they call a complete abortion.
   
   
3. Complete Abortion – a complete miscarriage or abortion is a condition wherein all the products related to the pregnancy of a woman is already out of her system.
   
   
4. Incomplete Abortion – this type of miscarriage happens when the tissues inside the woman’s body have been flushed, but others are still inside the utero.
   
   
5. Missed Abortion – also known as missed or delayed miscarriage, this indication of a miscarriage is described as a condition wherein the fetus is already dead but the miscarriage has not happened.
   
   
6. Septic Abortion – this is a condition wherein the remains of the incomplete abortion are infected which could spread through the entire body of a woman.
