Miscarriage Symptoms

Unfortunately, many women know all too well what it feels like to have a miscarriage. It will come as a terrible shock, yet women miscarry in as many as one in every five pregnancies. The majority of these miscarriages happen before the tenth week, sometimes before the woman is even aware that she is pregnant. So is there a list of miscarriage symptoms that can help warn or protect ourselves from miscarriages?

In general, you will most likely have no miscarriage symptoms if you miscarry in the first ten weeks of pregnancy. Yet, it is understood there are certain miscarriage symptoms you should look out for. These include:

  • You may experience bleeding; this could be a suppressed period. You might also notice an unusually heavy feeling around the bottom of your stomach.

  • Watch out for any aches or pains or twinges that are similar to period pains. Most miscarriage symptoms start with twinges in this area.

For a lot of women who have a miscarriage there is an enormous feeling of remorse or guilt, they question whether they should have noticed the miscarriage symptoms and whether they could have done anything differently.

What makes this feeling of guilt worse is that a miscarriage can happen at any time. In fact there are often no miscarriage symptoms and no warning. Because it can happen at any time, it is easy to connect a miscarriage to whatever you were doing at the time. You may have just had an argument, taken part in a rigorous activity or something else, whatever you were doing you should always remember that it is very unlikely this is connected to the miscarriage.

Whilst not necessarily a miscarriage symptom, research has found that more women will experience a miscarriage during a flu outbreak, especially in the early weeks of pregnancy. Medical staff has connected a high temperature or fever with miscarriage.

Because there are so few miscarriage symptoms, it will no doubt be a huge shock to the expectant mother and father. Things that happen so suddenly can take a great deal of time to recover from. You should definitely take time to grieve the loss of your baby, many women describe that they are often urged to forget or dismiss what happened and move quickly on. Recent studies have shown that this is not the best way to cope with a miscarriage.

If you have had a miscarriage and would like to try for a baby again, you will most likely experience a strong feeling of trepidation and worry that it will happen again. You will look out for the miscarriage symptoms and may feel that you are being overly protective. This is only natural, you're aware of the potential risks and now what affect it can have.

In summary, you may not always receive miscarriage symptoms. A miscarriage can happen at any time and without warning. We've also learned that in the very early stages of pregnancy you may be unaware that you've had a miscarriage.
