Signs of Miscarriage
It is important to know some of the common signs or symptoms of a miscarriage. The most common signs of a miscarriage involve bleeding and pain. When the two are combined there is always cause for alarm. The expulsion of blood from the vagina is the most common sign of a miscarriage. This discharge of blood from the vagina that results from a miscarriage is much heavier than that is experienced during the normal menstruation cycle, and it will usually last for more than two weeks. However, women experiencing any abnormal amount of bleeding from the vagina should consult a physician without delay.
Other symptoms include discharge of tissue and other material from the vagina that has a foul odor. Intense cramping that lasts for more than a couple of days and pain in the lower abdominal region are other common signs of a miscarriage. Although these can be symptoms of other medical conditions or temporary physical problems, they should not be taken lightly. Anyone persistently experiencing these symptoms should immediately seek professional care. It is important to remember that any bleeding accompanied by pain should be checked out.
It is also important to note that some miscarriages have no symptoms. It is quite possible for a woman to have a miscarriage and not experience any of the above problems. These are called silent or missed miscarriages. Generally, a patient will not know that she has miscarried until the administration of an ultrasound. Although these are not as common as miscarriages accompanied by symptoms, they do occur.
