Dizziness during Pregnancy
Dizziness during pregnancy is not uncommon, in fact it occurs in the majority of pregnancies, and this is because there are so many different causes of dizziness, that in some cases it is not necessarily the pregnancy which causes it in the first place. Many women complain of dizziness during pregnancy more during the first three months, this is not surprising considering the enormous amount of change happening inside of the body.
There are a number of reasons why dizziness is prevalent during pregnancy; it is thought that the most common reason is due to the increased levels of hormones that are produced during the first three months. The more technical reason is that as your baby requires more of your blood in order to grow and survive, as a result you will be receiving a lot less than usual, this leads onto feelings of light headedness, subsequently followed by feelings of dizziness.
In most cases, dizziness during pregnancy is not something to be overly concerned about. However, you should seek immediate advice from your medical team if you have extended periods of dizziness or it is accompanied by heavy bleeding. If you fall or are unsteady on your feet because of dizziness it is advisable to seek assistance also.
Since dizziness is mostly caused by lack of blood, or the restriction of blood flow, it is advisable to wear looser more comfortable clothing during pregnancy. We also suggest that you do not stand in the same position for too long, if you must stand for long periods try to keep moving positions to ensure that your blood is circulated.
