Dreams During Pregnancy

One of the symptoms of being pregnant is an increase in dreams during pregnancy. All of us experience dreams at some point, although many of these are never remembered. Yet dreams during pregnancy will be still vivid in the morning and can often be extremely realistic. As well as beautiful dreams, it is often possible that we might experience more frightening nightmares.

Dreams during pregnancy are entirely normal. However, to understand them in more detail we must first look at why we dream at all. For most people, dreaming is something that happens which is beyond our control, yet the topic of the dreams will often be something which is affecting our lives on a daily basis. So for example, dreams during pregnancy will almost always have connotations with being pregnant, having your baby or your future life with your child.

It's perfectly natural to be worried about having a baby, even the most confident mother to be who has already given birth before, will have some form of apprehension. These worries or concerned may not be spoken of, yet they still remain locked away in our mind, we still think about them and because we're thinking about them, they often do not have a solution. So the reason that we have dreams during pregnancy is our minds way of trying to resolve or work out how to address worries, concerns or possible problems.

The most common dreams during pregnancy prey on our apprehensions. This means that if we are worried about labor and delivery, our dreams may be about something going wrong, how much it will hurt or whether you will be able to perform as a mother. These dreams during pregnancy have a habit of undermining our confidence and worrying us even more, they become a bit of a vicious circle. So how do we stop them?

It's impossible to stop the dreams during pregnancy, it is an unconscious act that occurs whilst you are asleep. However, we can learn and take something away from them. If we can vividly remember what our dreams are about, say something that frightens us. It becomes possible for us to do something about it. Of course, it's perfectly natural to be frightened of the whole process of labor and delivery, yet if we took the time to rationally understand what would happen, and appreciate how many other women go through the same process on a daily basis, our apprehensions might be reduced.

Once we start to recognize the messages that our dreams during pregnancy are trying to communicate to us, we can work on our fears. Once this happens, many women describe a change in their dreams. Instead of being about what concerns us the most, they are about hopes, aspirations and capturing loving moments which we hope we can experience in the future.

Making these more positive dreams during pregnancy become a reality is often the same process as removing the nightmares. The main difference is that we become more positive and forward thinking people, this increases our confidence and will ultimately make us better parents.
