When you start to experience early pregnancy symptoms, often the best thing to do is to find out for sure. You can take the first step by buying a home pregnancy kit and checking for yourself. Carefully follow the instructions before putting it to use, if the reading is positive you will need to book an appointment with your doctor for an official test.

Whilst we often think about the early pregnancy symptoms as physical, many of us experience a huge emotional reaction to becoming pregnant, this is regardless of this being the first, second or third baby.

A lot of the time, you will have conflicting emotions during pregnancy. This is perfectly normal and one of the early pregnancy symptoms which more often than not we're not prepared for. For example, when they first realize they are pregnant, many women are overjoyed. At exactly the same time they may also feel frightened, insecure and apprehensive. All of these feelings are perfectly normal.

The best bit of advice that we can offer after you start to experience the emotional affects of the early pregnancy symptoms is to sit down with your partner and have a conversation, the objective of which is to try to understand each other's emotional state. If you do not have a partner, don't worry. You can still do this exercise on your own, instead of talking to someone about it (you could still do this by the way), write down the key headings that we're about to cover and how you feel about each of them. This will help you to have a greater understanding of your emotional reaction.

Feelings about becoming a mother

During the early pregnancy symptoms or at the early stages of having a pregnancy confirmed, many women experience a crisis in confidence about whether they will be able to look after a new baby. This is absolutely normal and to be expected. However, it is very important to understand that we are start like this, being a mother is about learning on the job. Our baby will let us know what they need and when they need it. Together mother and baby learn about their new roles and are constantly helping each other to learn.

Feelings about being pregnant

Generally, the idea of putting on weight and having to take care of our body is a worry to new mums to be. There is also a feeling of becoming a piece of public property as your intimate relations with your partner are on display. Many women also fear the constant examinations and the birth itself. All of this is to be expected at first, however in most cases these fears are caused by not having had the experience yourself. Try to think about the wonderful experience of having a baby is, bringing new life into the world, surely a few months of discomfort is a small sacrifice.
