Am I Pregnant? The Early Signs of Pregnancy

If you're wondering quite how to determine whether you are pregnant or not, usually the quickest and easiest way would be to purchase a pregnancy test kit. However, many women experience a number of pregnancy signs before deciding on a pregnancy kit.

One of the most obvious and well known pregnancy signs is the missed period. Should you actually be pregnant, you will find that your doctor or midwife will ask the date of your last period, this helps them to determine a pregnancy due date.

You may also experience other common pregnancy signs; one of the classic ones is morning sickness, although, it should be said that not all women experience morning sickness. In fact, one of the more popular of old wives tales suggests that whether or not you suffer from morning sickness, determines the sex of your child. Incidentally, if you do have nausea, you're supposed to have a girl.

Other pregnancy signs include swollen or tender breasts, slight spotting or vaginal discharge and in some cases headaches. Some women may experience all of the pregnancy signs, whilst others will only have one or two. The fact is that we are all different, so these should be taken as a guide.

One thing that is very important is not to ignore the pregnancy signs. Whatever reason you might have, ignoring them is only putting of the inevitable. If you're pregnant, it is not likely to go away. If the pregnancy signs are bad news for you, it is important that you speak with your partner or a medical doctor.

If on the other hand, pregnancy signs are great news and follow months of trying for a baby, you're in for an exciting time. If it is your first baby, your doctor will talk to you about the risks and what to expect. He or she will explain the different stages of pregnancy and the impact each stage will have on body and mind.

The doctor will also discuss your medical history of both you and the father. This is because they are trying to establish whether there is likely to be any risks or complications during the pregnancy. It is important to be honest during this process.

So there you have it, pregnancy signs lead to pregnancy tests, which then leads to nine months of discomfort before the special day arrives. It is important to prepare you mind and body for the critical times ahead. Research has shown that a healthy mother is much more likely to have an easier birth with fewer complications and reduced labor time. If ever there was a motivation required to begin looking after your body better, this is it.

We hope that this article was useful. Remember, different women experience different pregnancy signs. If ever you think you are pregnant, it is important to have the fact confirmed positive or negative as soon as possible. One more thing...
