Fatigue and Pregnancy

As sure as eggs are eggs, you will experience fatigue during pregnancy. Often fatigue and tiredness is one of the early symptoms of pregnancy and the result of all of the changes happening inside of your body. During the first trimester, you may well wonder if the fatigue will ever end, the good news is that most women start to feel whole lot better roughly around the start of the second trimester.

Fatigue and Pregnancy Tips

  • If you're feeling tired or have a lack of energy, yet you have had a full uninterrupted nights sleep, you might want to consider some light exercise. Certainly if you're in the early stages of pregnancy this will help to invigorate you and help your blood to circulate. You should only attempt certain exercises whilst pregnant, swimming and yoga is probably the most beneficial. Stay away from heavy lifting or more strenuous activities.

  • Make sure that you are getting enough rest. Especially in the early stages of pregnancy it is easy for us to get carried away and try to do too much. The best tip is to give yourself plenty of time to sleep in the evenings. If you have other young children and might be disturbed, try and arrange for help. Even if it is for just one evening, the benefits of a good nights sleep should not be underestimated.

  • Another way to combat fatigue and lethargy during pregnancy is to make sure that you are consuming the right food and vitamins. Lots of fresh fruit and vegetables, mixed with other energy providing foods such as pasta will be good for you. Speak with your doctor about taking additional supplemental vitamins in case you're missing out in any areas.

  • Do not try to overcome your fatigue and tiredness by drinking more coffee or other drinks that include caffeine. A freshly mixed fruit drink or smoothie will be much more wholesome and will have a similar affect.

  • Do not try to treat yourself with stimulants of other forms of energy enhancing drugs. Always check with your medical doctor before taking any drugs that have not been prescribed to you. Remember, whatever you take, your baby also takes.

Inevitably, you will experience increased fatigue and tiredness during the latter stages of pregnancy, especially during the third trimester as you start to count down the days before delivery. The most obvious reason for this is the additional weight you are carrying, but it is also important to recognize the emotional impact during the later stages of pregnancy.

It is vital that during the third trimester and the very later stages of pregnancy, you take things as easy as possible. You'll definitely start to agree that fatigue and pregnancy are one and the same, at this stage in your development it is perfectly acceptable to succumb to the tiredness. After all, you'll need as much energy as possible during labor and delivery, so our advice is to start conserving as much as possible, right now.
