Morning Sickness Symptoms

The nightmare that is morning sickness! As you trudge wearily from the bathroom for the third time that week, it will not be long before you should expect some eagled eyed friend, co-worker or family asking the inevitable question "Are you sure you're not pregnant?"

Even if this question is asked in jest, it just goes to show how widely understood that morning sickness is one of the very early symptoms of pregnancy. Most women will make an excuse or hide their morning sickness symptoms, this is because it tends to happen more in the critical first twelve weeks of pregnancy. Rather than tell all and sundry it is probably best to keep your pregnancy under wraps until the beginning of the second trimester, until then you'll have to blame that dodgy curry on your sickness.,

Not all pregnant women will experience morning sickness symptoms, in fact it is thought that is quite evenly split between those that do and those that don't. Those that do will also find out very quickly that the label "morning sickness" is a little bit of a misrepresentation, instead it should probably be changed to "all day sickness" or "morning sickness and most of the afternoon".

The timing of morning sickness is very interesting, most women if they do go on to have morning sickness symptoms will experience them most during weeks six to eight. Interestingly, this is also around the same time that many women find out that they are pregnant, perhaps taking a test because of the morning sickness symptoms. For most of us, morning sickness reaches a welcome end around about the twelfth week, or though in some cases this might stretch out as far as week sixteen.

The general morning sickness symptoms to look out for are feelings of nausea and general sickness. We all know what it feels like to be a little off color, so if you begin to feel like this more regularly than normal it is possible that you are experiencing morning sickness symptoms. Of course, it could just be that you really are off color and have something wrong with you, so it is always best to visit your medical doctor to make sure.

One important thing to consider with regards to morning sickness is that not all women will experience it. As we've explained on other pages on this site, we all experience pregnancy in different ways, so you should not be too concerned if you do not show any morning sickness symptoms. We mention this because there was a general consensus a few years ago that suggested morning sickness symptoms meant a healthy and risk free pregnancy, in our opinion there is no concrete evidence to suggest either way whether morning sickness has an impact on the health of mother or baby.

Finally, check out some of the other areas of this site, in particular the signs of pregnancy and the symptoms of pregnancy sections. After conception, our body has numerous ways to let us know that we are now pregnant, morning sickness symptoms is one of these ways, however it is most likely in conjunction with a number of other symptoms of pregnancy also.
