Pregnancy Back Pain
Back pain during pregnancy plagues many women. The problem is mostly to due with the extra weight you carry around as you grow during your pregnancy. This puts added pressure to many parts of your body such as your muscles and joints. This is why pain in your legs, ankles and back pain is common in pregnancy.
As with most pain in life there are things you can do to reduce. Here are a few ideas from us and some which were sent in by our readers who have experienced pregnancy back pain and found some great solutions to reducing their pain.
Regular exercise
Taking regular exercise, even if it's just mild walks around the park or light stretching can help ease the pain in your back tremendously. We recommend you read our articles on exercise during pregnancy for ideas and exercises that would help.
Correct posture at all times
Posture is important during pregnancy for easing all kinds of aches and pains, from leg pain to back and pelvic pain. Many of our readers suggest sitting up straight at all times - this includes at the dinner table and when watching TV. If you are laying or sitting in awkward positions this can wreck havoc with your back and contribute much of the pregnancy back pain you may be feeling.
No heaving lifting or rushing about
Most of us know that during the last stages of pregnancy women tend to go hog wild around the house. Cleaning, tidying up and going through what some call the 'Nest Building Phase' when preparing for the birth. The trouble is, although light exercise is good for you, rushing about like a woman possessed is not that good for your body, especially if you're bending down to clean areas and work surfaces and on your knees scrubbing the oven clean. Talk to your husband and ask him to help support you with the tasks that need doing around the house.
