Pregnancy Symptoms - Frequently Asked Questions

We’re always delighted to receive emails from our readers, none more so that when we receive questions about pregnancy symptoms and the early signs of pregnancy. We’ve decided to include the more common questions below. If your question is not listed, please do not hesitate to contact us.

I’ve just had a period, is it possible that I am pregnant?

One of the main symptoms of pregnancy is a missed period, so if you’ve just experienced a normal period, then you can not be pregnant. However, it is possible to have some light bleeding or spotting during the very early stages of pregnancy which can be confused for a period. If it is heavy bleeding, it is likely to be a full period and therefore you are not pregnant. As with any of the pregnancy symptoms, to make absolutely sure it is worth taking a home pregnancy test.

How do I work out when the baby is due?

Following pregnancy and determination of being pregnant, many women are then very keen to find out when the baby will be due. Unfortunately, this is not an exact science as it is measured on the assumption that you have a regular menstrual cycle, which of course is not always the case. It is much more likely that a doctor will take an educated guess on the due date based on the information that is available to him or her. We always recommend adding a week to this date.

I’ve had all of the pregnancy symptoms, then I started to bleed again. What does this mean?

If you’ve shown pregnancy symptoms and have taken a positive pregnancy test before heavy bleeding, we recommend that you seek urgent medical help right away, as this could be a sign of something more serious.

I’m so tired all of the time, how can I possibly cope with many more months of this?

One of the most horrid pregnancy symptoms to overcome is the feeling of tiredness. Don’t worry, it is not always like this, often it will be gone before the end of the first trimester or twelfth week. The constant feeling of tiredness is attributed to the massive changes occurring inside of your body as it prepares itself for pregnancy.

I’ve missed a period, yet the pregnancy test says that I am not pregnant?

One of the most well known pregnancy symptoms is a missed period, however it is not always a sign of pregnancy. It can also be a sign of sudden weight gain or loss, stress or fatigue. So just because you have missed a period, it does not always mean you are pregnant. On the other hand, it is hard to find reason with our intuition. If you think that you are pregnant or have experienced other pregnancy symptoms, it is possible that the pregnancy test was taken too early or did not work. The best thing to do is to purchase another pregnancy test kit and take the test again, or you can visit a medical professional for a blood test.
