Signs You Are Pregnant

News of a pregnancy can be one of the most memorable occasions in a mother or father's life. Therefore, it is important to know some of the signs of a possible pregnancy. However, one must never allow these signs to replace a credible medical diagnosis by a physician. There are some signs that one can look for that may point to a potential pregnancy.

Most people commonly associate missed periods and morning sickness with pregnancy, but there are additional signs that may indicate a woman is pregnant. Unusual food cravings are sometimes a sign of pregnancy. However, they can also reflect other physical conditions. Additionally, frequent urination, swollen or tender breasts and a high basal body temperature are other signs of a possible pregnancy. Also, darkening of the areolae are a sign of pregnancy. Areolae are the skin around the nipple. One can also take bleeding or cramping as a possible sign of pregnancy. The bleeding will usually occur in the form of spotting in the undergarment. The feeling of fatigue is a common symptom of pregnancy but is usually not indicative if experienced alone. The fatigue is often described as a feeling of exhaustion. Fatigue related to a pregnancy is brought on by the production of high levels of the hormone progesterone.

It is also worthy to note that in most cases, it is a combination of these symptoms that point to pregnancy. Patients should be careful not to consider an isolated symptom as a definite sign of pregnancy.
