Cramping in Early Pregnancy
Cramping in early pregnancy is not as unusual as you might think, it is often accompanied by spotting so it is often written off as being the onset of a regular period. Many women talk of stomach cramps, however it is also possible you will receive cramping in your lower back and abdomen.
It's actually quite funny how some women go through the whole thought process of becoming pregnant, most of the time we're looking for cast iron symptoms, missed period, morning sickness or enlarged breasts. Yet cramping in early pregnancy is often the very first sign, followed by spotting. These symptoms are easy to dismiss, until of course the others start to occur, then the penny finally drops.
The reason why you will start to experience cramping in early pregnancy is because your body is readying itself, the uterus is growing in preparation. Whilst some parts of your body grow, others tend to follow which leads to temporary discomfort. Although, saying that the next nine months are far from a walk in the park!
If you're pregnant and do not know, it is possible that you might think the cramps are to do with your period, this is because they are very similar. Although, from emails to this site from our loyal readers we have been informed that cramping and a positive pregnancy test, does not always mean you are pregnant. Apparently, there is a phenomenon called “chemical pregnancy”, which can happen to many women without them even knowing about it.
