The Usual Signs of Early Pregnancy

When I first became pregnant, I must admit I knew immediately. Some women are like this, their mothering instinct kicks in right away, already they know how to act, what to do and all of the signs of early pregnancy. On the other hand, I remember my sister, she could have been hit with a large sign stating “Your are pregnant”, whilst wondering why she was being sick every morning and having missed her period and still not realize. That’s the wonderful thing about us humans, we’re also so fantastically different.

Just in case you‘re like my sister, we’ve compiled a list of the most usual signs of early pregnancy. Use the list below as a guide though, seek medical help if you’re unsure. Some of the symptoms of pregnancy described below can relate to other ailments, so it is best to conduct your own test.

  • Often the biggest hint from our body that we’re pregnant is a missed period. Some women say that they experience other signs of early pregnancy before they miss a period. However, almost without doubt the missed period is the sign that encourages them to double check.

  • One of the least expected signs of early pregnancy is tender or swollen breasts. Many women expect these significant physical changes to occur later in pregnancy, however the change takes place very quickly as the body prepares to make milk for the infant. As the breasts prepare themselves, it is not unusual for them to increase in size. You may also note they feel heavier and there is visibility blood lines (veins).

  • A consequence of the changes going on inside your body and the increase in hormone levels is a feeling of tiredness or fatigue. One of the hormones is called progesterone, which is in fact a natural depressant, which explains why many women like to sleep during the signs of early pregnancy. The great news is that this feeling of tiredness is short lived and will be replaced by renewed vigor from weeks eleven or twelve onwards.

  • One of the signs of early pregnancy that got my husband guessing was my constant sickness in the morning. Many women agree, this is either when they know for sure they’re pregnant or when it becomes “We are pregnant” as they ensure that their partners suffer for their discomfort. Don’t worry gentleman, morning sickness usually only lasts for the first trimester, until then make sure you offer plenty of soothing words or hot towels.

  • The last of the sure signs of early pregnancy is “spotting”. At first this may be quite a concern as it usually happens in the first two weeks of pregnancy, so you may yet be unaware you’re even pregnant. If you do experience this, you may wish to seek assurances from a medical doctor.

Whilst these are the most common signs of early pregnancy, there are most certainly others. By the same tune, many women will not experience all of the symptoms of pregnancy, only one or two. Whichever one you will suffer with, think about the long term, as at the end of this relatively short period of discomfort is a beautiful baby boy or girl.
