The First Signs of Pregnancy

Usually after the first signs of pregnancy, we rush off to the chemist and purchase a home pregnancy testing kit. This is because whether we are pregnant or not has a massive impact on our life. Perhaps we were not planning to become pregnant and was taking precautions? If this is the case, it can be very worrying when we experience one of the first signs of pregnancy.

Although the first signs of pregnancy are well known, it does not necessarily mean that you are pregnant if you develop one or even two of the symptoms of pregnancy. Many of the first signs of pregnancy can in fact be signs of other problems or deficiencies, a sign from our body that we need to seek medical help or change something.

It’s uncanny, however the first signs of pregnancy usually start with you asking yourself or your partner whether you or they think you are pregnant. That’s because our body, minds and nature has a funny way of working, it’s part of our makeup. When we become pregnant, our intuition kicks in, often before any of the physical first signs of pregnancy.

Whilst we have covered a lot of the more general and well known first signs of pregnancy on other pages of this site, we thought we would take the opportunity to cover some of the less well known symptoms or first signs of pregnancy:

  • An increase in sex drive during pregnancy. This is very hard to describe, however many women have an enormous feeling of satisfaction and love when they first suspect that they are pregnant. This in turn increases their sex drive, so you may find that your love making increases as a result of being pregnant.

  • One of the lesser known first signs of pregnancy is the change in taste and smells, especially with certain foods. Some experts suggest that this is our body’s natural defense against possible harmful intake. For example, many expectant mothers who have previously enjoyed alcohol or smoking describe a feeling of nausea when close to them during the first signs of pregnancy.

  • We might also begin to experience a strange metallic taste in our mouth, this is because of the increased hormones racing throughout our body. We may also have dental complaints which we might not necessarily have expected.

  • Another slightly unusual of the first signs of pregnancy is feeling constipated. You might not link this at first to being pregnant, if you are, make sure you drink plenty of water and eat lots of fruit and vegetables.

The thing to remember with the first signs of pregnancy is that all of us are different. Each of our pregnancies shows different symptoms, some women may not have any at all, whilst others may be unfortunate enough to experience all of them. Once you think you have seen the first signs of pregnancy, it is important to get it confirmed as soon as possible. You might like to buy a pregnancy testing kit or prefer an appointment with your medical doctor.
