Pregnancy Blood Tests

When a woman is trying to determine whether or not she is pregnant, there are several options she can choose from. The most commonly used and cheapest method is a urine test. However, this method can sometimes be inaccurate. On the other hand, those looking to make sure can spend a little extra for a pregnancy blood test.

Blood tests work by taking a sample of a woman's blood and analyzing them in a lab. If a female is pregnant, she will display a certain hormone that is only emitted during the stages of pregnancy. If this hormone is detected, the lab and doctors can be fairly sure that the woman in question is indeed pregnant.

This test is also useful because it can allow a person to determine exactly how long they have been pregnant. This information will help both doctors and patients put a timetable on when the baby will be born, and on what night the baby was conceived. This can be important in case of any possible disputes about the identity of the father. Because of the added information that is available, most pregnant women do get a blood test even if they are certain they will be giving birth.

The best way to get a blood test is to simply talk to a family doctor that you are comfortable with. He or she will have more information on the test, such as how long the results take to get back and how accurate it is. They will be able to help you make a good decision on whether to take the test or not.
