Tiredness and Pregnancy

Tiredness is a common symptom of pregnancy and affects every woman to some degree during pregnancy. This is true no matter how much rest or sleep you get, unfortunately tiredness is all part and parcel of being pregnant.

Generally women feel the most tired during the first trimester of pregnancy as the body goes through the changes and shock of being pregnant. The energy required for all of the changes can explain why many women feel tiredness.

With tiredness and pregnancy going hand in hand there is little that can be done to alleviate it, but feeling grouchy due to tiredness can be helped with lots of relaxation techniques, such as taking long soaks in the bath with your favourite bath oils and scents.

Your diet is also important in the fight against tiredness. Ensure you are eating good pregnancy foods and that your diet during pregnancy is balanced and nutritious. Taking light exercise can help you feel better, such as a walk in the park or even around the garden in the fresh air.

If at any point your tiredness is affecting your mental health or your normal functioning then you should consult your doctor as they may be able to help. Remember to stay away from caffeine even though this can be tempting when feeling tired.
