Medication during Pregnancy
It stands to reason that you'll be expecting to take a lot of medication during pregnancy, however unless you're actually ill or already have an affliction of some sort, then the likelihood is that Doctor's will try keep the amount of medication they prescribe to you as little as possible. This is because the more chemicals and drugs that are being used, the greater the chance there is for complications. As we all know, complications during pregnancy should be avoided at all costs.
Instead of medication you might find that you are advised to take more supplements and vitamins, this is to give your body a little help in areas where perhaps your food intake does not provide enough of something. This is often the case with iron, as despite what our food packets suggest it is very difficult to ever have enough iron in our systems.
If you are taking medication before becoming pregnant, it is very important that you check with your Doctor whether it is advisable to continue taking the drugs. Some forms of medication have an impact on women's (or men's) fertility, whilst others can harm a growing uterus, so it really is important to double check. Of course, it goes without saying that if you're taking any form of medication that had not been prescribed, which perhaps should have been that you stop taking them immediately.
The only other area to discuss with regards to medication during pregnancy is during the stage of giving birth. For example, you may decide to have a natural birth that does not include any drugs apart from gas and air, or a traditional birth with pain killing medication available.
