Menstruation during Pregnancy
Common thought would suggest that the words menstruation during pregnancy should not exist. Surely, all periods halt as soon as you become pregnant? That's the main pregnancy symptom that encourages people to seek confirmation. So if menstruation occurred it would mean that you are not pregnant after all?
Well, as is always the case with pregnancy things are not as black and white as they seem. Yes, common logic suggests that a missed period, along with other symptoms suggest pregnancy, a blood test confirms it, and then it is the end of menstruation for a while. Yet despite this, there are cases of women experiencing menstruation during pregnancy, in fact these cases have been confirmed and researched by the medical profession, so what is that all about?
We think that it is still very rare for women to experience menstruation during pregnancy. Of course, we're here to be shot down with that statement, so please feel free to write in with your comments. However, our experience suggests that it only happens right at the start of pregnancy (and more often than not before the woman knows she is pregnant), or when the conception occurs very close to the next period. We can not think of any other examples when a woman might menstruate during pregnancy.
The other thing to consider is that bleeding or spotting is mistaken for a regular period. If you know that you are pregnant and your doctor has confirmed this, yet you experience heavy bleeding it is very important that you seek an appointment with him or her as soon as possible.
