Painting during Pregnancy

It's funny how often the words painting and pregnancy are seen together, realistically these two words should never be in the same sentence, however to say that demonstrates a lack of understanding of how a woman thinks during pregnancy. Firstly, there is the infamous nesting period to consider, if this phrase is new to your vocabulary, allow me to explain; the nesting period typical happens towards the end of the second trimester and the beginning of the third. During this time, a women will make every attempt to make sure her home (her nest) is as welcoming, secure and as comfortable as possible for her new arrival.

Unfortunately, modern culture dictates that her partner is often on a different wavelength. So whilst cursory promises regarding the new nursery are made by ‘the man', they are often not following through with the vigour expected by the woman. This means there is only one solution, the woman takes things into her own hands, or in this case decides that regardless of her current situation, she will paint the nursery on her own.

So is painting during pregnancy safe? I guess it depends on how high and secure the ladder is. On a more serious note, no one should attempt to climb a ladder without someone there to hold it, so the question is not one of safety but one of whether the paint contains fumes or chemicals that might harm the unborn baby.

Our advice is that you should take care painting during pregnancy; this means you should only attempt to decorate a room if you have no other alternative. If this happens, make sure you have plenty of ventilation and wear a face mask.
