Second Trimester - Enjoy Being Pregnant
For many women, the second trimester is a time when they can finally enjoy being pregnant and look forward to the arrival of their baby. They are used to being pregnant by now, they are starting to show and most importantly, the anguish caused by the first trimester and the early pregnancy signs have mostly gone.
Now that you fell more comfortable, you might like to start planning for the future. The second trimester provides us with a little breathing space to achieve this, we’ve put together a short check list of some of the things you might like to do or think about during the second trimester.
- It is critical that you continue to look after yourself from health perspective during the second trimester. This includes eating well and taking the right supplements, make sure that you are receiving the recommended daily allowance in protein, iron and calcium. If you’re not sure what amount to take, consult your doctor.
- It is important to continue to keep a regular exercise schedule during the second trimester, yet at the same time not to overdo it. You should be concentrating on general fitness and toning the back and leg muscles.
- Have a look at our exercise during pregnancy pages. Now that you have control of your body again, you may want to consider activities such as swimming or yoga. Many of these types of activities are created specifically for second trimester pregnant women.
You’ll most likely have a number of check ups already planned through out the second trimester. Make sure that you’re able to attend these.
You may also find that you have a little more time on your hands during the second trimester, many women find that they use this time to plan ahead. For example, you may need to buy some maternity clothes or other comfortable clothes to wear as you begin to put on more weight. It may also be time to cast aside those high heeled shoes, at least for a few months, instead consider some comfortable slip on shoes.
Whilst you’re out shopping, you might also start to plan for baby clothes or nursery related items. Many people prefer to plan this during the second trimester whilst they have the energy, rather than doing it during the third trimester when it may become too uncomfortable. Perhaps you could speak to family or friends to see whether they have any baby items you could borrow or use.
If you have not already guessed it, the second trimester is often viewed as the calm before the storm. Where possible, you should really try and take advantage of this period to plan ahead. Many women describe the third trimester as one of being uncomfortable and less mobile, therefore your chances to get things done on time are reducing daily.
The second trimester is also the last real time that you could consider taking a break. If you already have children, now is a good time to pack the bags and have some special relaxation time. You’re still able to fly during the second trimester, so as long as you take sensible precautions (Like not going dirt back riding in the outback), you’ll be fine and free to enjoy yourself.
