Sex While Pregnant
A common misconception for many couples is that they can't have sex during pregnancy. Many women are under the impression that having sex while pregnant can hurt the baby or cause complications with the pregnancy. Obviously, if these things were true, it would be highly unadvised to engage in sexual activities while pregnant. However, it is important for couples to understand that having sex while pregnant does not pose any health risks for the mother or baby.
As humans, it is completely normal to have a strong sexual drive. Many couples become frustrated and unhappy during pregnancy because they stop engaging in their normal sexual activities. To avoid this situation, it is important to realize that sex during pregnancy is normal and actually beneficial.
For many couples, the questions then arise of what to watch out for, along with how they can have sex given the new size of the mother's stomach. It is important to understand the normal bleeding that accompanies pregnancy, as many couples mistake this for damage caused by sexual intercourse. As far as positions, couples should take time to find positions that are comfortable for both partners. Items such as a pillow can make intercourse during pregnancy easier and more enjoyable.
Although couples should continue their normal sexual activities throughout the course of the pregnancy, a doctor may actually advise intercourse towards the end of a pregnancy to help induce natural labor. A male's semen can help to soften the cervix and prepare for the delivery of a baby.
