Stages of Pregnancy

There are three different stages of pregnancy; these are commonly known as the first trimester, the second trimester and the third trimester. During the different stages of pregnancy you will experience different emotions and physical changes.

Stages of pregnancy - First trimester

The first stages of pregnancy are called the first trimester. This is usually thought of as the first twelve weeks. The first stages of pregnancy are often the most critical as this is the time when there is greater chance of a miscarriage. Emotionally, you may start to feel worried or inadequate, perhaps even frightened as you're not sure what to expect. Other women feel excited, happy or relieved that they have finally conceived. Once your pregnancy is confirmed, it is important that you seek medical help and support as they will be able to offer you the best advice and suggestions. Medical staff will also use this time to establish whether there are any heredity risks and set up appropriate monitors.

Stages of pregnancy - Second trimester

Of all of the stages of pregnancy, many women describe the second trimester as the most enjoyable. This is because they have finally got used to being pregnant, their bodies have also accepted the many changes so fatigue and morning sickness usually stop. This is also the stage of pregnancy where the woman will begin to show, friends will notice your bump and you may start to require maternity clothes.

Many families take the opportunity to take a final vacation or break before it becomes too much of a risk or is too uncomfortable to travel.

Stages of pregnancy - Third trimester

The last of the stages of pregnancy is the third trimester; this is the period when you build up to the birth of your child. It is normal to experience different emotional feelings during the third stages of pregnancy. Many women become frightened at the prospect at giving birth or are worried that they may not be good mothers. These fears are usually completely without reason, however it is easy to have doubts, so our suggestion is to try and concentrate on the positives.

By now, you may have a due date in your mind. This is the date that emotionally you are telling yourself it will be all over. If this is the due date provided by medical staff, we suggest adding another 5-7 days. Most pregnancies will go beyond the original due date, which can have a deflating affect on the mother to be, it is paramount that you remain upbeat and lively.

All of the different stages of pregnancy represent new challenges, either physically or emotionally. By being aware of them, you will have a much greater chance of being able to deal with them and have a hassle free pregnancy. Should you have any worries or doubt about being pregnant, then it is important that you discuss these with your partner or a medical professional. In most cases a medical professional has experienced many different worries and anxieties and will be able to put your mind to rest very quickly, leaving you to the important task of concentrating on your baby.
