Tanning While Pregnant

What is it with everyone? Always worried about the pregnant girl…. Can't fly, can't have my hair done, can no longer drink or smoke, no late nights and no fun! What's going on? Now we're being told that we should no longer go to the tanning salon when we're pregnant and that we should definitely throw the sun bed out.

Don't these killjoys realise that us women need something to make us feel good? A sun tan is a must for all girls about town, pregnant or not! Well, the good news is that it is possible to maintain our model looks, as most of the do it yourself home tanning kits are completely harmless to our unborn baby. All they are is sprays and lotions that sit on top of the skin, so if these are your tan makers of choice, you have no problem at all.

In all seriousness, there has been extensive research about the affects of tanning while pregnant. None of us would want to be the cause of any pain or discomfort for our unborn sprog, so we should be grateful of this. Knowing that sprays and lotions are fine, is great. However knowing that sun beds are bad is very important, we have been giving the information and it is up to us to decide what we do with it.

The main reason that using a tanning bed or similar is bad for you and your unborn baby is due to the level of heat your body reaches during the session. Think about how hot these sessions are and how uncomfortable they are for you at times, now imagine the affect that this would have on a developing baby. We all feel much better with a tan and there's no reason not to continue tanning while pregnant, however choosing lotions and oils rather than beds is much the safer option.
