Tylenol during Pregnancy
Just to clarify, Tylenol is an over the counter drug which is used to treat fever and pain. Taking Tylenol during pregnancy is pretty much an ongoing debate, there are two schools of thought, some say you should definitely not take it while others say there is no harm as long as it is taken sensibly.
For the record, we're not going to add to this debate. We're not privy to the latest and greatest research on this topic, so we're going to sit very comfortably on the fence on this one. What we will say is that it is up to you to take responsibility for all medication that you are given and take during your pregnancy.
At no time should you consider taking any drug, regardless of it being an over the counter derivative without first consulting your medical team. It's fairly safe to say that the majority medical opinion on Tylenol is that if it is taken it will not harm your baby; the main area of contention is that it is possible there will be other side affects. Ultimately, this is your health; your health also means your baby's health in these situations.
We've thought about whether Tylenol during pregnancy is a good thing or not, and we have come to the conclusion that it is not really for us to say either way. Sure, this sounds like a cop out, but it is not really. We're not the ones suffering from the discomfort; we're not the ones experiencing the pain or the sleepless nights. If we were, and Tylenol was the answer, I'm pretty sure our decision would be easy. |
